Ahead of next weeks Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Eurovoix.com talks to Erin Mai from Wales, who will sing “Calon yn Curo”.
How does it feel to be representing Wales at Junior Eurovision?
I feel amazing! I feel so lucky to be representing Wales in such a huge competition. I still can’t believe this is happening and I’m super excited to travel to Poland!
The writers of “Calon yn Curo” have previous Eurovision experience (Cyprus 2010). Have they given you any advice ahead of the contest?
Yes the writers have been great. It’s so nice to have people who know the competition so well. They’ve told me to enjoy every moment and have fun on stage
In the music video for “Calon yn Curo”, you do some clogging. Will you be bringing that on stage with you in Gliwice?
I absolutely love dancing and clogging was an exciting element of the music video. I’m going to keep the live performance a surprise!
You have a background in singing traditional Welsh songs. Do you have a favourite song that you like to sing?
Wales is known as the land of song and the area where I’m from, Llanrwst in North Wales is very well known for its musical heritage.
My favourite song that I like to sing is “Seren Wen”/ “Anfonaf angel”.
What is the main message of “Calon yn Curo”?
The main message of the song is about facing your fears and giving it your best shot and sharing special moments. It’s such a fantastic message to be promoting at the Junior Eurovision and seems the perfect message to share with young people across Europe.
What are you most excited about for Junior Eurovision?
I’m really excited about the whole experience but especially meeting and making new friends. It’s certainly a once in a lifetime experience and I want to cherish the moment, take it all in, and make sure that I remember this amazing experience for a very long time. I feel totally blessed to be representing Wales on such a huge stage.
