RTS has extended the deadline for interested artists wishing to compete in Beovizija 2020 and represent Serbia in Rotterdam.
The Serbian national broadcaster has extended the deadline for the Beovizija 2020 submissions window, with the new deadline set for December 9th. Until then, interested singers and songwriters can submit their songs to RTS. The dates and format for Beovizija 2020 are yet to be revealed by the broadcasters.
The rules for Beovizija 2020 follow that of the Eurovision Song Contest, with the addition of the following:
- Lyrics of songs must be performed in one of the official languages of Serbia
- Foreign composers can compete in Beovizija, but all singers must be citizens of Serbia
The 2020 edition of Beovizija will mark the third year in a row that the format has been used to select the Serbian representative since its return to screens in 2018. Previously RTS had used a mix of internal selections and televised selection formats.
In 2019 Serbia was represented by Nevena Bozovic and her song “Kruna”. She went on to place 18th in the Grand Final in Tel Aviv.
Serbia have competed as an independent nation in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2007, and have seen great success in the competition. Their first entry in 2007, Marija Šerifović’s “Molitva”, won the contest in Helsinki with 268 points, making Serbia’s debut one of the most successful in Eurovision history. From then up to their year’s break in 2014, Serbia finished in the top 10 a further two times, including a 3rd place finish in 2012 with Željko Joksimović’s “Nije ljubav stvar”.
