The EBU has confirmed that Finnish broadcaster MTV3 has ended its membership of the European Broadcasting Union.
The Finnish broadcaster MTV3 has ended its membership of the European Broadcasting Union. The private broadcaster, which was the first commercial broadcaster in Finland, has been broadcasting since 1957.
MTV3 joined the European Broadcasting Union in 1993, after the broadcaster was re-branded from TV3. The channel was bought out by Swedish Telecoms company Telia in 2018, with the deal being approved by the European Commission this month.
MTV3 did not participate in any of the formats that viewing audiences associate with the European Broadcasting Union. MTV3 is the second broadcaster this year to end its membership of the EBU, after Cadena COPE left in August.
