The next artist to feature in our “Who Is” series for the Junior Eurovision 2019 season is Yerzhan Maxim from Kazakhstan.
Twelve year old Yerzhan Maxim is from Oral, Kazakhstan. Yerzhan began singing at five years old, but began taking music classes in 2012. Since then, he has taken part in many national and international competitions such as Slavianski Bazaar, Sanremo Junior Festival, and The Voice Kids Russia where he was a finalist earlier this year. The singer attempted to represent his country at last year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest on their debut, but finished third in their national final selection show.
This year Yerzhan was internally selected by Khabar to represent Kazakhstan with his song “Armanyńnan Qalma”, written by Aldabergenov Daniyar and Timur Balymbetov. “Armanyńnan Qalma” is about how the whole world will open up for you if you have dreams.
Kazakhstan made their debut at Junior Eurovision 2018 with Daneliya Tuleshova singing “Ózine seń” (Yourself). She took sixth place, having been one of the favourites to win that year’s contest. She finished 8th in the jury vote with 68 points, but came third in the online vote with 103 points. Around 132,000 viewers watched as Kazakhstan made their first appearance at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
