Filming for the upcoming Netflix movie Eurovision has moved to Húsavík in Northern Iceland over the past few days.
Pierce Brosnan is amongst the actors who have been on location in the small town which is known as a tourist spot for whale watching. Brosnan will star in the film alongside Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams, Dan Stevens and Demi Lovato. A number of Icelandic actors are also taking part in the production.
On Instagram, Brosnan thanked Húsavík and said he was proud to be part of the Eurovision family:
Earlier this month, filming had taken place in various locations in Edinburgh, Scotland. In Edinburgh, Ferrell and McAdams were spotted on Calton Hill in the city centre wearing 1970s clothing. The Eurovision Song Contest was held in Edinburgh in 1972.
The plot of the film is expected to involve Ferrell and McAdams as aspiring Icelandic musicians and Brosnan as “the most handsome man in Iceland.” Demi Lovato has been cast in the role of “Katiana” whilst Dan Stevens is expected to play a Russian Eurovision contestant in the film.
Research for the Netflix project commenced in 2018 during the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, and continued a few months ago in Tel Aviv during the 2019 edition. Additional filming has also taken place in London. The film is written by Ferrell alongside Andrew Steele.
The director of the project is David Dobkin who also directed Wedding Crashers, which featured McAdams.
