Vocal Line have reacted to their victory in Eurovision Choir 2019, with the group celebrating into the night in Gothenburg.
Jens Johansen the choir leader for Vocal Line has spoken to DR following their victory in Eurovision Choir 2019, last night in Gothenburg, Sweden.
We had not expected to win, but we also knew that everything could happen in this competition, because it was very different choir groups and types of music that the participants came up with.
Mr Johansen thinks that it was the simplicity of the choirs performances that gave them the edge:
I actually think it was. That we were first and foremost concerned with delivering a message and feeling and that it was the music that was at the center.
It’s a choice we’ve made. That the music should be at the center, and for us it should not be wrapped in some set choreography. It doesn’t suit us, and we have stuck to that, he says.
The choir had been a surprise winner of the competition, with Norway’s commentator among a number of viewers to express their surprise at Denmark’s win in Gothenburg. Arild Erikstad stated that he had expected runners up Latvia to take victory in Sweden.
DR has noted that it is not required to produce the next edition of Eurovision Choir. The contest is currently organised by the EBU in co-operation with Interkultur as part of the European Choir Games.
