RTVSLO has confirmed their participation in Eurovision 2020, as the Slovenian broadcasters launches EMA FREŠ.
Slovenia has confirmed their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, with RTVSLO revealing a new addition to their selection for the competition. EMA FREŠ has been launched by the Slovenian national broadcaster, to give the opportunity for unknown and up and coming artists a chance to compete in EMA 2020.
EMA FREŠ is open to performers who are not yet twenty-six years old and who have commercially released no more than three copyrighted songs. Interested performers are invited to send a video 1 minute long of a performance. The deadline to apply in the new round of the selection is September 19.
RTVSLO will be posting tracks / recordings on the broadcasters website and other social networks related to the contest daily and launching an online voting for the daily winner. The daily winners will be entered into a weekly contest, with a winner being named each week. The elimination competition will be held over multiple rounds, with the winner going onto compete in EMA 2020.
EMA 2020 submissions have also opened this evening, with singers who do not meet the EMA FREŠ criteria having until November 20 to apply. More details regarding the selection show will be revealed over the coming months.
Slovenia was one of three countries to join the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993. The country qualified through a specially organised selection round called “Kvalifikacija za Millstreet” which was hosted in Slovenia, seven countries competed for three spots in Eurovision 1993. The country has participated in 22 editions of the Eurovision Song Contest. Their best result came in 1995 when Darja Švajger finished 7th scoring a total of 84 points, she is closely followed by Nuša Derenda who finished 7th in the 2001 contest with 70 points.
