Cyprus will participate in the 2020 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Cypriot broadcaster CyBC has revealed to ESCToday that they will be taking part in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. It is likely that the broadcaster will opt for an internal selection once again, but no further information has been released as of yet.
At the 2019 contest, Cyprus was represented by internally selected artist Tamta and her song “Replay”. She finished in 13th position in the Grand Final with 109 points.
The Eurovision Song Contest will be brought back to the Netherlands for the 2020 edition after Duncan Laurence’s victory at the 2019 contest with his song “Arcade”. To date, 26 countries have confirmed preliminary participation. These countries are:
- Czech Republic
- San Marino
- United Kingdom
Cyprus debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981. Their best result in the contest comes from their 2018 entrant Eleni Foureira, who placed 2nd with her song “Fuego”. Cyprus withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 due to financial difficulties, but returned again in 2015 where they were represented by John Karagiannis.
