Greece will not be returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year.
Greek broadcaster ERT has confirmed to Eurofestivales that they will not be returning to the contest this year. The reasoning behind their absence this year has not been clarified, however they first withdrew from the contest in 2009 due to financial reasons.
Greece participated in the first Junior Eurovision Song Contest back in 2003, placing 8th with Nicolas Ganopoulos’ “Fili gia panta”. They participated every year up until 2008, their most recent attempt, where they finished in 14th place. Their best entry comes from Alexandros & Kalli in 2005 with their song “Tora einai i seira mas”, finishing in 6th.
The 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held on Sunday 24th November in Gliwice, Poland. To date, 15 countries have expressed their interest in participating in the contest:
