RTVS, the Slovak national broadcaster, has confirmed they will not be making their debut in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Poland.
Erika Rusnรกkovรก, press spokesperson for RTVS, confirmed that Slovakia will not take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. This was in response to reports that the country would be making their debut appearance in the contest this year.
Slovakia had previously planned on participating in the first edition of Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 but budget problems prevented the country from taking part. Slovakia’s last participation in a Eurovision event was in Eurovision Young Dancers in 2015.
The 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held onย Sunday 24th Novemberย in Gliwice, Poland. To date, eleven countries have expressed their interest in participating in the contest:
- Albania
- Australia
- France
- Georgia
- Ireland
- Kazakhstan
- Netherlands
- North Macedonia
- Poland
- Portugal
- Russia
- Wales
Although they have not yet confirmed, it is expected that these countries will confirm this year due to their attendance at the Reference Group meeting:
- Armenia
- Belarus
- Italy
- Malta
The following nations have confirmed that they will not be participating in Poland:
- Croatia
- Moldova
- Montenegro
- Slovenia
- Slovakia
