The first participant in Melodifestivalen 2020 will be known on August 24, with the final of P4 Nästa taking place in Linköping.
The final of P4 Nästa will take place on August 24, with eight singers competing to be named the winner of this years show. The winner of P4 Nästa will see their song played across all twenty five P4 stations across Sweden, while one of the eight finalists will be selected to compete in Melodifestivalen 2020 and potentially represented Sweden at Eurovision.
Regional heats for P4 Nästa will take place over the next couple of months, with all twenty five stations holding local finals. The contest is open to singers and songwriters both new and established from across Sweden.
The show has been used since 2013 to select one participant in Melodifestivalen. In total 1,260 songs were submitted into this years contest, all hoping to win the competition.

Sweden debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958 and has gone on to be one of the contest’s most successful countries. The country has won the contest six times, the most recent being in 2015. Sweden’s first victory came in 1974 when ABBA won the contest in Brighton with “Waterloo”. Since missing out on the final in 2010, Sweden has gone on to finish 3rd twice and has won the contest twice, only in 2013 did the country place outside of the top 10 in the final.
