The city of Zwolle has dropped out of attempting to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The city which had previously announced its interest has determined that the IJsselhallen is not suitable to host next years contest. The Director of the hall stated:
The venue does not meet the requirements. In terms of size, facilities and capacity, things will not work at the moment. Mr Denneboom admits that the interest from Zwolle was never a realistic statement of wishing to host the contest:
We have always said that if you look at it in real life this is not the place to hold the Songfestival. We are not ZiggoDome or Ahoy. Certainly not acoustically. We are basically 6-0 behind, we said from the first moment.
