ORF has confirmed that Austria will be participating in the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands.
In an interview with Kleine Zeitung, the Program Director at ORF Kathrin Zechner, confirmed that Austria will compete in Eurovision 2020. This comes after Austria recorded their worst result at the competition since 2012.
The broadcaster has not yet determined how it will select its participant for 2020, however an internal selection is very likely. However Eberhard Forcher is reported to already be looking for potential singers for Eurovision 2020.
PÆNDA failed to qualify for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The singer who performed “Limits” on stage in Tel Aviv, finished 17th in the second semi-final, scoring 21 points. The Austrian entry failed to receive any points from the public televote.

Austria debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957, Bob Martin represented the country on their debut, but finished in last place scoring just 3 points. The country has gone on to finish last in the contest on 8 occasions. Austria has won the contest on two occasions, the first being in 1966 when Udo Jürgen performed “Merci, Cherie”. It was 48 years later than Austria won again when Conchita Wurst performed “Rise Like a Phoenix” scoring a total of 290 points.
