Sven Epiney returns to the commentary booth for a twelfth year, with the presenter guiding viewers on SRF through the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.
Television presenter and personality Sven Epiney has been confirmed by SRF as the broadcasters commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Sven has been the commentator for SRF since 2008, having taken over from Bernard Thurnheer who provided commentary in 2007.
Sven Epiney has become the face and voice of the Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland since becoming the commentator for SRF. He has presented a number of the Swiss selection process and provides on the ground reporting from the contest for SRF. SRF will be broadcasting Eurovision on the following channels:
- Semi-Final One – May 14 – SRF Info
- Semi-Final Two – May 16 – SRF Zwei
- Grand Final – May 18 – SRF 1
Alongside their broadcast of the shows live from Tel Aviv, SRF will also be showing two additional shows. Shalom Tel Aviv – Luca Hänni auf dem Weg zum Eurovision Song Contest 2019, will be broadcast from 20:00 CET on May 16 ahead of Switzerland’s participation in semi-final two. While Eurovision Song Contest 2019 – Sven Epiney entdeckt Tel Aviv will be on SRF 1 from 20:10 CET before the Grand Final.
Switzerland hosted the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 a contest that they won. Lys Assia won the first contest with the song “Refrain”, it wasn’t until 1988 that Switzerland would win the contest again. At the contest in Dublin, it was Celine Dion with “Ne partez pas sans moi” who beat the United Kingdom to victory by just 1 point. In recent years Switzerland has finished last five times since 2004. In the past four years, Switzerland has failed to reach the final.
