Michela Pace has cancelled her appearances at the pre-parties across Europe to focus on rehearsals for Tel Aviv.
The Eurovision in Concert team have confirmed today that Michela Pace will no longer be appearing at the event which will take place next month. The singer who will represent Malta in Tel Aviv, has cancelled her appearance to focus on rehearsals for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The announcement comes after the singer also withdrew from appearing at the London Eurovision Party.
Malta is currently ninth in the betting odds and predicted to qualify for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time since 2016. The singer is viewed as the best chance for Malta to have a strong result at the contest in the past few years.
Who is Michela Pace?
Michela was selected to represent Malta after she won The X Factor Malta back in January. At 18-years-old, the young singer beat off competition from three other singers in the final, and has since met with the Prime Minister and Justice Minister of Malta. Along with winning the right to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, she also secured a record deal with Sony Music Italy.

Malta debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 and was represented by Joe Grech and the song “Marija L-Maltija”, which finished last. Malta competed again in 1972 and 1975 but then withdrew until their return in 1991. During the 1990s Malta only once finished outside of the top 10, and in 1998 they came within just 7 points of victory. It was Chiara who brought the country their 3rd place finish in 1998, and who went on to finish in 2nd at the 2005 contest in Kyiv. The only other artist to finish 2nd for Malta is Ira Losco, who was 12 points away from victory in 2002. They are the longest participating country never to have won the Eurovision Song Contest.
