Sveriges Radio has confirmed that Christer Björkman will be the Contest Producer for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Christer Björkman will be the Contest Producer for the Eurovision Song Contest for a fourth year running. In an interview with Sveriges Radio, Mr Björkman confirmed that he will be returning to the role again for this years contest in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Contest Producer is one of the key roles for the Production of the Eurovision Song Contest. Speaking ahead of the contest in Lisbon last year, Mr Björkman explained that it is important for each contest to incorporate the feel of the host nation.
Christer Björkman has been the producer of Melodifestivalen, the popular show which is used to select the Swedish entry for Eurovision, since 2002. He has also been an influential figure on the Eurovision Song Contest, acting as show producer for Eurovision 2013 in Malmo and contest producer for Stockholm 2016. He was also formerly a member of the EBU’s Reference Group for the contest. He is due to step down from his role in Melodifestivalen in 2021.
Tel Aviv will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in the Expo Tel Aviv (International Convention Centre) on May 14, 16 and 18 2019. After receiving bids from several cities across Israel, the final two remaining candidate cities were Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. KAN recommended Tel Aviv to the Reference Group.
