iTV has revealed that Chingiz Mustafayev will represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with “Truth”.
Azerbaijan is set to be represented by Chingiz Mustafayev at this years Eurovision Song Contest. The singer will be performing “Truth”, which was selected internally to represent the nation in Tel Aviv. Chingiz is the third solo male singer to have represented Azerbaijan at the contest.
Chingiz will be known to Azerbaijani’s for winning Yeni Ulduz in 2007 which was one of the most popular shows on Azerbaijani television. At the time he was only 16 years old and since then has gone to become an established artist.
Three other singers were also shortlisted by iTV for the contest:
- Samira Efendi
- Tofig Hajiyev
Azerbaijan held an open call for songs for this years Eurovision Song Contest. It has also held an internal castings process to determine the singers who have been shortlisted to represent the nation in Tel Aviv.
Azerbaijan debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008, they were represented by Elnur & Samir with the song “Day After Day”, they finished 8th in the final. In 2011 Azerbaijan won the Eurovision Song Contest represented by Ell & Nikki and their song “Running Scared”. The song scored a total of 221 points, receiving only three sets of 12 points from Malta, Russia and Turkey. In 2018 Azerbaijan failed to qualify for the final for the first time, having previously had a 100% qualification record.
