The four artists who will be competing to represent Georgia at Eurovision 2019 have been selected this evening in Tbilisi.
The semi-final stage of Georgian Idol took place this evening, with five artists performing two songs each. In the end it was Nini Tsnobiladze who was knocked out of the running this evening, leaving the final four. The four artists who progressed from tonights show will compete next weekened to represent Georgia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The finalists are:
- Liza Kalandadze – First in the voting
- Giorgi Nakashidze
- Oto Nemsadze
- Giorgi Pruidze
In the final each of the singers will be performing one of the three songs shortlisted by GPB for the contest. The songs have been composed by Levan Basharuli, Roma Giorgadze and Tamar Babilua, all of which have extensive musical backgrounds. The song that will represent Georgia this year will be sung in the Georgian language.
The winner of Georgian Idol will be decided entirely by public voting. Georgian Idol has been using both SMS as well as Facebook Messenger voting.
Georgia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007, they were represented by Sopho Khalvashi and the song “Visionary Dream”. Sopho finished 12th in the final scoring 97 points, the song received 12 points from the televoters in Lithuania. Georgia has only ever missed one contest since their debut, this was in 2009 when Georgia had selected Stephane & 3G with “We Don’t Wanna Put In”. The EBU asked for Georgia to rewrite the lyrics of the song or change the song completely.
