INFE Azerbaijan reports that Chingiz Mustafayev has been internally selected by iTV to represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.
Chingiz Mustafayev has reportedly been selected by the Azerbaijani national broadcaster to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2019. The singer was among the shortlist of four singers that iTV that INFE Azerbaijan reported were being considered for the contest in Tel Aviv.
Chingiz will be known to Azerbaijani’s for winning Yeni Ulduz in 2007 which was one of the most popular shows on Azerbaijani television. At the time he was only 16 years old and since then has gone to become an established artist. iTV has not confirmed the report from INFE Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan is currently also looking for the song that will represent them on stage in Israel. The rules of the selection are:
- Songs cannot have been released before September 1, 2018
- Lyrics and composition must be original
- Songs must be submitted with information about the songwriters
Those wishing to submit songs have until February 7, and must email their submission to:
Aisel represented Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal. However, she failed to qualify for the final with her song “X My Heart”, finishing 11th. She was 14 points away from qualification, and this was the first time the country failed to make it to the final.

Azerbaijan debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008, they were represented by Elnur & Samir with the song “Day After Day”, they finished 8th in the final. In 2011 Azerbaijan won the Eurovision Song Contest represented by Ell & Nikki and their song “Running Scared”. The song scored a total of 221 points, receiving only three sets of 12 points from Malta, Russia and Turkey. In 2018 Azerbaijan failed to qualify for the final for the first time, having previously had a 100% qualification record.
