Today it was revealed in a press conference that the Czech Republic will be represented by band Lake Malawi at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song “Friend of a Friend”. Lake Malawi managed to win Eurovision CZ 2019 after securing the most votes from the Czech public, so therefore will be singing in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The song “Friend of a Friend” was written by Jan Steinsdoerfer, Maciej Mikolaj Trybulec and Albert Černý.
The final result was determined by a combination of international jury and public vote. Czech broadcaster ČT have been teasing who the international juries awarded their 12 points to in the competition.
The international jury was composed of previous Eurovision artists from other countries as well as a final jury vote of international fans. The points of the jury were then converted into standard points with Lake Malawi and Barbora Mochowa each receiving 12 points as they were tied with 108 points.
The standardised points from the jury were then combined with the public vote. Barbora Mochowa only managed to receive 6 points from the Czech vote and therefore slipped into fourth place overall. Jakub Ondra received the most televotes earning him 12 points, and 18 points altogether. However his points fell short of Lake Malawi who managed to achieve 10 points from the televote, securing them the top position with 22 points in total.
