The EBU has revealed the pots that each of the countries taking part in the semi-finals of Eurovision 2019 have been drawn into ahead of the Semi-Final Allocation Draw.
The 36 semi-finalists have been each been allocated one of six pots, based on historical voting patterns. This will help reduce neighbourly voting in the semi-finals. The six pots are:
- F.Y.R. Macedonia
- Czech Republic
- The Netherlands
- San Marino
Due to a request from SRF which was approved by the Reference Group, Switzerland will take part in the second semi-final.
The Semi-Final Allocation Draw will take place on January 28 in the Museum of Art in Tel Aviv. Assi Azar and Lucy Ayoub, both of whom will present the Eurovision Song Contest in May, will host the event. During the ceremony, Fernando Medina, the mayor of Lisbon, will hand over the Host City Insignia to Ron Huldai, the mayor of Tel Aviv.
The draw comprises of two parts. The first part of the draw will determine which semi-final each of the six pre-qualified countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and host country Israel) will broadcast and be able to vote in. The second part of the draw will determine in which semi-final and in which half of the respective semi-final the other 36 participating countries will perform. As in recent years, the exact running order will be determined by the producers of the show.
The Semi-Final Allocation Draw will be streamed live on the official Eurovision Youtube channel from 17:00 CET on January 28. The Eurovision Song Contest 2019 will take place on May 14, 16 and 18 in Expo Tel Aviv. 42 countries will take in the contest.
