Jan Smit has revealed to Nu.nl that the broadcaster and its selection committee are in ongoing discussions with multiple artists about Eurovision 2019.
Jan Smit who is a member of the committee that will select the Netherlands participant and song for Eurovision 2019, has spoken about the current state of the broadcasters search. Mr Smit said that a participant has yet to be selected;
I can say from the bottom of my heart that we have not found anyone yet
Discussions have taken place with multiple artists and the broadcaster is still being approached by new potential artists. Unlike recent years where the Dutch entrant has been a well known name, the broadcaster is open to sending an unknown act to the contest in Tel Aviv, Israel.
One artist who has been heavily rumored to be taking part in the competition is Davina Michelle. The singer has confirmed to Nu.nl that she will not be representing the Netherlands in Israel. She stated;
First I want to discover who I am and what music I want to make, and then I will see if the Song Festival fits in.
Waylon represented The Netherlands at Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal. He was internally selected by Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS, and sang “Outlaw In ‘Em”. The Netherlands finished 18th with 121 points.
The Netherlands debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and has gone on to compete in all bar four contests.
