Viktor Zhusti and Ana Golja will host the 57th edition of Festivali i Këngës.
Albanian broadcaster RTSH has revealed in a press conference that Viktor Zhusti and Ana Golja will host FiK 57. Viktor is well-known in the acting industry, and returns to his hosting duties after 47 years. Ana is a Canadian actress of Albanian origin who recently released her first album “Epilogue”.
This news follows on from the reveal of the competing songs, which are now available to listen to in full. This is the first time in a couple of years that RTSH has opted to reveal the competing songs before they take to the stage of Festivali i Këngës. You can listen to all the songs below:
A number of additional changes are being made to the format of this year’s contest. The first night of the show will see all 22 songs performed alongside the RTSH Symphonic Orchestra. While night two will see the songs performed with their backing track and staging similar to that they would want at Eurovision. Night three on December 22 will then see the Albanian entry for Eurovision 2019 selected by a professional jury.
Albania qualified for their first Eurovision Song Contest final since 2015, at this years competition in Lisbon, Portugal. Eugent Bushpepa and his song “Mall” made it through to the final and went on to finish 11th with 184 points, they received 12 points in the jury vote from Azerbaijan and 12 points from the televote in Macedonia and Italy.
Albania made their debut at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2004, the same year the televised semi final was originally introduced to the competition. Albania succeeded in their first showing with Anjeza Shahini’s “The Image of You”, sailing through the semi final in 4th place and eventually landing in a respectable 7th place at the grand final. Albania have competed in the Eurovision Song Contest every single year since their debut, making 2018 their 15th appearance. Since the success in their original attempt, they have reach the grand final a further six times. They bettered their 2004 score in 2012 with Rona Nishliu’s song “Suus” who finished the contest in fifth place with 146 Points, their first time reaching the top 5 and their best placing to date.
