The six singers who will be competing in the Overs category of X Factor Malta have been selected by Ray Mercieca.
The third round of the Six Chair Challenge was broadcast last night in Malta as Ray Mercieca cut the Overs category down to its final six. The Overs category is formed of singers over the age of 25. The six singers he selected to go through to the next round of the competition were:
- Anna Azzopardi
- Franklin Calleja
- Anna Faniello
- Pe Tra
- Ben Purplle
- Vanessa Sultana
Fans will recognise Franklin Calleja for his multiple attempts at representing Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest. Last year he also participated in San Marino’s search for Eurovision 2018, but finished 5th in the final. Another name that will draw interest is Anna Faniello, the mother of singers Claudia and Fabrizio, who have both represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The X Factor Malta continues on Sunday, with the Groups category being the next to face the Six Chair Challenge. The X Factor Malta replaces the existing Malta selection format, Malta Eurovision Song Contest. The Malta Eurovision Song Contest also previously known as the Malta Song Festival had been used to select Malta’s Eurovision entry since their debut in 1971. The selection had undergone a number of revamps in recent years including the introduction of televoting and cutting out the semi-final stages.
Christabelle represented Malta in Lisbon in 2018 with the song “Taboo”. She finished 13th in the second semi-final, having finished 5th with the juries on 93 points, but last with the public with 8 points.
