Albanian media is reporting that the vote on whether to accept RTK as a full member of the EBU has been delayed until next year.
Magazina.al reports that a vote on whether the national broadcaster of Kosovo will become a full member, is now set to take place in the June of 2019. It had previously been reported that a vote on RTK’s full membership of the EBU would take place during the EBU General Assembly which is currently underway in Switzerland. According to Magazina.al, the EBU released a statement to the publication saying that;
This issue is being discussed by the EBU’s Executive Board and the vote is expected to take place in June next year,
In the past Kosovo have participated in other Eurovision events. For example in 2011, RTK selected Tringa Hsya to participate at the Eurovision Young Dancers contest that year. Media reports earlier this year stated that RTK had hoped to be admitted to the EBU as a full member which they hoped would enable them to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.
Last year the national broadcasters of a number of countries across the Balkans stated their support for Kosovo to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. However both Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia have opposed such participation.
If Kosovo were to debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019, they would be the first European nation to debut in the contest for a decade. Both Azerbaijan and San Marino debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008, while Australia has been competing in the competition since 2015.
