Today the first rehearsals of ten countries took place in Minsk, Belarus.
Preparation for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 has officially kicked off with the first rehearsals of Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Israel, France, FYR Macedonia, Georgia, Ireland, Albania and Belarus. Here’s a recap of what happened.
The first performance today was Levon from Armenia. The staging remains similar to the staging in the national final, including the trumpet. Levon is alone on stage and has several projections of himself on the LED screens behind him. Levon will be singing “L.E.V.O.N.”, which is sung in Armenian.
The second performance of the day is Jael Wena from Australia. Jael sings alone on stage on a podium. She stays there for the duration of the song. Gold lighting is used throughout the performance. Jael will be singing “Champion”, which is sung in English.
Next up on stage is Fidan Huseynova from Azerbaijan, one of three countries returning to the contest this year. Fidan is joined on stage by four dancers, who are all wearing white like her. There is also a white cube on stage, on which Fidan starts and ends the song. Fidan will be singing “I Wanna Be Like You”, which is sung in Azerbaijani and English.
The fourth performance today was Noam Dadon from Israel, the winner of this year’s adult song contest and the second returning country. Noam performs alone on stage, staying in the same place for the entire performance. A starry sky appears behind Noam on the LED screens. Noam will be singing “Children Like These”, which is sung in Hebrew.
The fifth performance of the day is the third and final returning country, Angélina from France. Angélina is joined on stage by two dancers and multiple props, including a lamp post, a bench and an ice cream cart. The LED screens show various buildings in Paris. Angélina and her dancers interact with the props throughout the performance. Angélina will be singing “Jamais sans toi”, which will be sung in French and English.
Next up on stage was Marija Spasovska from FYR Macedonia. Marija starts off the performance wearing a black cloak but takes it off to reveal a white dress underneath. Marija performs alone and moves around the stage. The LED shows a snowy scene, similar to the one shown in the music video. Marija will be singing “Doma”, which will be sung in Macedonian.
The seventh rehearsal today was that of Tamar Edilashvili from Georgia, last year’s host country. Tamar begins her performance lying down, similar to in the music video, before standing up for the rest of the performance. The LED screens behind Tamar show vehicles moving in traffic and the English lyrics in the song appear on whenever they are sung. Tamar will be singing “Your Voice”, which will be sung in Georgian and English.
Taylor Hynes from Ireland was next on the stage. Taylor is joined on stage by two dancers during his performance. The dark clothes worn by Taylor and his dancers contrast with the bright colours on the LED screens. Taylor performs some choreography during the instrumental break. Taylor will be singing “IOU”, which will be sung in Irish.
The penultimate rehearsal of the day was Efi Gjika from Albania. Efi remains in one place throughout the performance, as she did in the national final. The LED screens show a cartoon version of Efi, wearing the outfit from the national final. Efi will be singing “Barbie”, which will be sung in Albanian and English.
Rounding out today’s rehearsals was Daniel Yastremski from the host country, Belarus. Daniel is joined on stage by four dancers. The staging features a number of props, including a sofa, a basketball hoop and a bicycle. The props are used to depict different scenes during the song. Daniel will be singing “Time”, which will be sung in Russian and English.
