The seventh competitive gala of Operación Triunfo took place last night. The two nominated contestants sang to stay in the Academy while the remaining nine contestants aimed to avoid being nominated by the jury.
Joining the jury as a guest judge this week was Brisa Fenoy. The guest performers this week were Eros Ramazzotti and CNCO.
Last week’s nominated contestants, Marilia and Noelia, each had to perform a song of their choice. Marilia chose “Maria se bebe las calles” by Pasión Vega while Noelia chose “Stone Cold” by Demi Lovato. With 50,2% of the public vote, Marilia was saved while Noelia became the sixth contestant to be expelled from the Operación Triunfo Academy.
After Noelia’s elimination, the remaining 10 contestants (including Marta) were evaluated by the jury.
The performances by the contestants who were not nominated last week were as follows:
- María – “Voy en un coche” (Christina y Los Subterráneos)
- Famous – “Nobody But You” (Cesár Sampson)
- Miki and Sabela – “No olvidarme de olvidar” (Rosana and Carlos Rivera)
- Natalia – “Flames” (David Guetta feat. Sia)
- Alba Reche and Carlos Right – “Contamíname” (Ana Belén and Víctor Manuel)
- Marta and Julia – “Love on Top” (Beyoncé)
Famous was voted favourite of the week by the public and was safe from nomination. The jury chose to nominate Carlos Right, Marilia, Miki and Julia. The Academy staff chose to save Julia and the contestants chose to save Miki. Carlos Right and Marilia were nominated and one of them will leave during next week’s gala.
A Eurovision Gala of Operación Triunfo will be held in January to select the Spanish representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Any of the 16 contestants that entered the Academy can be selected for Eurovision, regardless of their placement in the competition. The submission period for anyone looking to submit entries opened on November 1 and will remain open until November 15.
Amaia y Alfred were selected through last year’s edition to represent Spain in Lisbon. They finished 23rd in the final with a total of 61 points, following their performance of “Tu canción”.
