San Marino: Eurovision 2019 Participation Confirmed

San Marino RTV has confirmed that they will be participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The San Marinese national broadcaster has confirmed that the nation will be making their 10th appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster is one of the last to publicly confirm their participation in this years contest. Only Tele-radio Moldova remains in making a statement as to whether they will be competing in Israel. Head of Delegation Alessandro Capicchioni commented;

Considered the peculiarity of the place, Tel Aviv will surely be a special edition … we’ll do our part by doing our best

Last year saw San Marino hold their first ever televised selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest. 1in360  used an online selection process which saw over 1000 singers submit videos of either original songs or covers. The show culminated in a live final which was held in Bratislava, Slovakia with the winner determined by online voting and a jury.

San Marino RTV has only previously held an open call for songs on one occasion before 2018, that being in 2008 when Miodio were eventually selected by a jury to be the Republic’s first Eurovision representatives in Belgrade.

In Lisbon, San Marino was represented by Jessika feat. Jenifer Brening with the song “Who We Are”. The nation finished 17th with 28 points, the nation was just 4 points above Georgia who finished last in the second semi-final.

On their debut they were represented by Miodio and the song “Complice”, and finished last in their semi final with just 5 points. San Marino withdrew from the contest before returning again in 2011. Since then the country has participated annually and in 2014 qualified for their first final. The nations worst result came in 2017 when Valentina Monetta represented San Marino for the fourth time alongside Jimmie Wilson with “Spirit of the Night.” The pair finished last in their semi-final with just 1 point.
