Croatia: Dora 2019 To Take Place Over Three Nights

Jutarnji reports that Dora 2019 is set to be held over three nights, as Croatia holds their first televised Eurovision selection since 2011.

The Croatian website reports that HRT is working with Opatija to host the 2019 edition of the competition, with the show scheduled to take place over three nights. Each night of Dora will feature a different style of music, the breakdown of each night is as follows:

  • Night One – Chansons and Optaija Serenades with the Symphony Orchestra
  • Night Two – Dora classics
  • Night Three – Entries for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.

According to Jutarnji adds that a jury will also be providing feedback on the performance and voting for the Croatian entry for Tel Aviv alongside the public.

Dora was previously used to select every Croatian entry from the country’s debut in 1993 until 2011. HRT cancelled the selection after 2011, citing Croatia’s poor results in the last ten years and decreasing public interest. All Croatian entries since then have been chosen through internal selection.

Croatia was represented by Franka at the 2018 contest in Lisbon, Portugal. With her song “Crazy”, she finished in 17th place in the semi-final.

Croatia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993, they were one of three countries to debut in the contest that year. Croatia’s best result came in 1999 when Doris Dragovic finished 4th in Jerusalem. She performed the song “Marija Magdalena” which scored a total of 118 points, this included 12 points from Slovenia and Spain. Croatia returned to the contest in 2016 having withdrawn after the 2013 contest due to a string of poor results and financial difficulties.
