Belarus: Daniel Aleks Yastremskiy to Junior Eurovision 2018

Daniel Aleks Yastremskiywill represent Belarus at this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Minsk.

This year’s host country Belarus is the latest country to select their entrant for the 2018 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Ten acts took to the stage tonight hoping to impress the public and the judges, but in the end it was Daniel Aleks Yastremskiy with their song “Time” that took the victory.

Participating tonight was:

  1. Myata – Odnazhdy (8+1) 9 points – 9th
  2. Daniel Aleks Yastremskiy – Time – (12+4) 16 points – 1st
  3. Yelizaveta Meya – Zorka – (7+3) 10 points – 7th
  4. Artem Skorol – Ulybnis – (4+7) 11 points – 6th
  5. Angelina Yaroshchuk – Feeling Good (6+2) 8 points – 10th
  6. Monkey Tops – Na stile – (2+10) – 12 points – 5th
  7. Mariya Zhilina – Welcome To My Belarus – (10+5) 15 points – 2nd
  8. Yaroslav Sokolikov – Mir na zemle (5+8) 13 points – 4th
  9. Nikita Belko – Ne preday – (1+12) – 13 points – 3rd
  10. Mariya Gulevich – Ostrov Chikarum – (3+6) – 9 points – 8th

Hosting the show this evening was Teo and Olga Ryzhikovoy. Teo represented Belarus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, while Olga is a television presenter and the wife of Teo. The two have become the face of Eurovision and Junior Eurovision in the country having hosted the national selections for a number of years. The winner was decided by 50% public voting and 50% jury vote.

Belarus debuted at the first edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003, and have been present at every contest since. To date, Belarus have won the contest twice – first in 2005 with Ksenia Sitnik and her song “My Vmeste”, which received 149 points, and the second time in 2007 with Alexey Zhigalkovich and his song “S Druz’yami”, which received a total of 137 points. Their worst entry came from Egor Volchek and his song “Spjavajtse So Mnoj” in 2004, which received only 9 points. Belarus have placed in the top 3 a total of 5 times to date.
