Östersund has dropped out of the running to host a show for Melodifestivalen 2019 due to prior events taking place in the city.
Östersund will not be hosting one of the shows in Melodifestivalen 2019 despite being approached earlier this year by the competitions producers. The town which hosted a round of Melodifestivalen in 2015, had been approached about hosting the show on March 2nd, 2019.
The local Municipality was unable to prepare the information required to host the competition in 2019. This was due to preparations for the Biathlon World Cup which is due to be held in March 2019. The Municipality had asked for additional time to consider hosting, however the contests producers could not wait any longer for a decision. The city and local municipality have both stated that they are interested in hosting a show in 2020.

Sweden’s first victory came in 1974 when ABBA won the contest in Brighton with “Waterloo”. Since missing out on the final in 2010, Sweden has gone on to finish 3rd twice and has won the contest twice, only in 2013 did the country place outside of the top 10 in the final.
