SVT has stated that they will not participate in Eurovision Choir of the Year 2019 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Swedish national broadcaster has informed Eurovoix that they are not participating in Eurovision Choir of the Year 2019. The contest which is to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden in August 2019, currently does not have a host broadcaster. The competition is being produced in partnership with Interkultur and the European Choir Games.
In 2017 SVT also ruled out participating in the competition, with the broadcaster stating;
Sweden is not (participating), among other things SVT is focusing on other major projects with music and culture right now
SVT currently participates in three of the Eurovision formats; Eurovision Song Contest, Eurovision Young Dancers and Eurovision Young Musicians. They also previously participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. TV4 who is also an EBU member participated in the Eurovision Dance Contest and Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
The timeline for next years competition is as follows;
- Expressing interest in participation – September 30
- Letters of Commitment – October 31
- Confirmation of Eurovision Choir of the Year 2019 being held – January 15, 2019
- Pre-production – January 15 to July 31
- On-Site – July 31 to August 4
To date two nations have already confirmed their participation in Eurovision Choir of the Year 2019. Romania selected their participant in the autumn of 2017, while Wales has launched their selection process. The following countries also participated in the 2017 contest;
