Östersund has been approached by SVT to host the Andra Chansen round of Melodifestivalen 2019 next March.
The Municipality of Östersund has been approached by the Swedish national broadcaster to host the Andra Chansen round of Melodifestivalen 2019. The town which hosted a round of Melodifestivalen in 2015, has been approached about hosting the show on March 2nd, 2019. The Municipality has not publicly stated whether or not it has accepted the offer.
The report from the Municipality also reveals the provisional dates for next years Melodifestivalen shows:
- Semi-Final One – February 2
- Semi-Final Two – February 9
- Semi-Final Three – February 16
- Semi-Final Four – February 23
- Andra Chansen – March 2
- Final – March 9
Should Östersund accept the offer to host the contest and put forward the necessary funds for the competition, the show will be hosted at the Östersund Arena. A number of events are already planned in the town in the weeks preceding and proceeding after Melodifestivalen including the Biathlon World Cup.
28 songs will compete in Melodifestivalen. 14 will be selected by a panel from the public submissions process. The other 14 songs will be chosen by SVT directly, these songs are either through invitation or from the public submissions process. As ever the winner of P4 Nästa will be guaranteed one of the spots in the Melodifestivalen line up.
Benjamin Ingrosso represented Sweden at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal last week. At the Grand Final, he placed 7th with 274 points. Sweden recorded their worst result in a televote for a decade finishing 23rd with the public and scoring just 21 points.
Sweden debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958 and has gone on to be one of the contest’s most successful countries. The country has won the contest six times, the most recent being in 2015. Sweden’s first victory came in 1974 when ABBA won the contest in Brighton with “Waterloo”. Since missing out on the final in 2010, Sweden has gone on to finish 3rd twice and has won the contest twice, only in 2013 did the country place outside of the top 10 in the final.
