RAI Gulp has confirmed to Eurovoix that Italy will be participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk, Belarus.
RAI Gulp, the children’s channel at the Italian national broadcaster, has confirmed to Eurovoix that they will be participating in this years Junior Eurovision Song Contest in the Belarusian capital. The confirmation by the Italian broadcaster sees an Italian singer take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for a fifth time.
The broadcaster did not confirm as to how they will be selecting their singer for the contest in Minsk. Italy has previously used both internal selections and televised selections to pick their singer for the competition. Maria Iside Fiore represented Italy at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Georgia. With her song “Scelgo” (My Choice), she finished in 11th position with 86 points.

To date Cyprus is the only nation to confirm their withdrawal from the competition. While Bulgaria, Denmark, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland have ruled out returning to the competition.
The following countries who participated in the 2017 contest in Tbilisi, Georgia are yet to publicly state whether they will be taking part in the 2018 contest;

Italy debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2014. Their first and only win to date was on their debut, when Vincenzo Cantiello came in 1st place with 159 points with his song “Tu Primo Grande Amore”. Their worst result was in 2015 when twins Chiara & Martina came 16th with 34 points with their song “Viva”. Since their debut, Italy have participated in every contest.
