Noa who represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, has called for her country to host next years competition in Tel Aviv.
Speaking in Argentina, Noa who represented Israel at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Russia has called on her home country to host next years contest in Tel Aviv. The singer spoke after a concert in Buenos Aires, commenting that the city she wanted to see host next years contest was;
Tel Aviv. Because it is a city of life, joy, happiness. It’s not political, it’s not contentious. It’s where Eurovision should be. Eurovision is a party, not politics, so it should be in Tel Aviv.
The singer who performed the peace ballad “There Must Be Another Way” alongside Mira Awad, felt that Jerusalem was currently not a suitable host city for the contest. She added;
when there is peace we can hold Eurovision in Jerusalem.
Noa and Mira Awad finished 16th in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with their song “There Must Be Another Way”. The song was the first Israeli entry to feature an Arab singer and Arabic lyrics. At the time the singer stated that it was not a song about peace, but instead a call to respect the humanity of others. The duo wanted to show what was possible if an Jewish-Israeli and Arab-Israeli worked together.
Israel is expected to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 after their triumph at the 2018 contest in Lisbon with Netta Barzilai and her song “Toy”. Cities across Israel are currently bidding to host the contest amidst controversy and threats of boycotts.
