ERT, the Greek national broadcaster has today made an open call for talented young musicians who wish to represent Greece at Eurovision Young Musicians 2018.
Greece is searching for its participant in Eurovision Young Musicians 2018, as the broadcaster opens a week-long window for potential participants to apply. Talented young musicians who are not professionally engaged and aged between 12 and 21 years old are invited to submit an application form. To represent Greece at the competition in Edinburgh, the musician must be of Greek nationality or have resided in the country for at least two years.
Candidates must send all relevant material electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org by 11 June at 23:45 local time.
Once the submissions deadline has closed, a jury of well known musicians will watch all of the audition tapes and will vote on the performers. On June 18 and June 19, the performers who make it past the first round will be invited to the ERT studios to perform again for a jury. The jury will then select the Greek participant for Eurovision Young Musicians 2018.
Of note is that the Greek selection process exceeds the deadline for participants for Eurovision Young Musicians 2018 to have been selected by. The European Broadcasting Union confirmed to Eurovoix in May, that June 15 was the deadline for selections to have taken place by.
Albania will make their Eurovision Young Musicians debut in this year’s contest. Seven countries will make their return to the contest. These are Belgium (last participated in 2006), Estonia (2004), Greece (2014), Israel (1986), Russia (2010), Spain (2002) and the host nation, the United Kingdom (2010). Austria, who is the most successful country in the contest with five wins, will not take part for the first time since 1982.
The 2018 edition of Eurovision Young Musicians sees the return of a semi-final elimination round, which will take the form of public chamber recitals (St. Cecilia’s Hall) by all contestants on 18-19 August, with all recitals produced by BBC Radio 3 for distribution to the Euroradio network (as well as via web streaming).
