Slovenia will not participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 this November in Minsk, Belarus.
RTVSLO the national broadcaster of Slovenia has stated that they have no plans to return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year in Tbilisi, Georgia. Slovenia withdrew from the contest in 2016 citing changes to the rules of the contest. In 2016 a number of changes were made to the contest including moving the show to a Sunday afternoon and the removal of the public televote.
Slovenia debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 in Malta and finished 3rd in last years contest in Sofia, Bulgaria where Lina Kuduzović performed “Prva ljubezen”. Slovenia was one of three countries who participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 but withdrew from competing in the contest last year. The other two countries were San Marino and Montenegro.
The 2018 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Minsk, Belarus after the country won the bidding process before the 2017 contest even began. Olga Salamankha explained that Belarus was selected as the host for next years contest over other bids due to their long-term commitment to the competition.
