Serbia: Junior Eurovision 2018 Participation Confirmed

RTS, the Serbian national broadcaster, has confirmed that they will be taking part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk.

Silvana Grujić from RTS confirmed to ESCPlus that Serbia would present in Minsk. Details on how the Serbian entry will be selected is not known at this time but will be announced in due course.

At the 2017 contest in Tbilisi, Georgia, Serbia was represented by the duo Irina Brodić and Jana Paunović. With their song “Ceo svet je naš“, they placed 10th overall with 92 points.

Serbia debuted at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, after previously participating the year before as part of Serbia and Montenegro. The country participated every year after that up until 2011, where they withdrew. They wouldn’t return until 2014 and have participated ever since. Serbia’s best results are two third-place finishes which occurred in 2007 with Nevena Božović, and in 2010 with Sonja Škorić.

The 2018 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Minsk, Belarus after the country won the bidding process before the 2017 contest even began. Olga Salamankha explained that Belarus was selected as the host for next years contest over other bids due to their long-term commitment to the competition.

Broadcasters have until June 29 to apply to take part in the contest.

Serbia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Serbia made their debut in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006. They were represented by Neustrašivi učitelji stranih jezika on their debut with the song “Učimo strane jezike”, finishing 5th with 81 points. Serbia went on to compete annually until 2010, after which point RTS withdrew from the contest due to financial difficulties. Serbia returned to the contest in 2014 and has gone on to compete in the contest annually.
