Julia Samoylova has admitted that she had wanted to withdraw from participating in Eurovision 2018 during preparations for the contest in Lisbon.
Julia Samoylova who represented Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 has revealed that she had considered withdrawing from the competition in the run up to the show in Lisbon. The singer stated that preparations for the competition did not go as she had hoped adding;
I had thoughts of abandoning Eurovision, especially when preparations for the contest were not going as I imagined, perhaps my ideas were too vague
The singer stated that despite all of the issues that;
I thought that I could cope with this task. all the same it’s my dream – let it be naive, but I went to her, and I’m glad that in my life this happened.
Russia finished 15th in the second semi-final scoring 65 points from the public and juries. The country finished 17th in the jury vote with 14 points and 11th with the public on 51 points.
Julia Samoylova was born in Ukhta, a small industrial town in the Russian North, on October 7, 1989. A singer, composer and songwriter, she has won multiple music competitions both in Russia and abroad. She was the runner-up of the Russian version of The X Factor and took part in the opening ceremony of the 2014 Paralympics. She was selected to represent Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song “Flame is Burning”, but the country withdrew.

Since the mid-00s Russia has had a string of strong results including their first and only victory to date in 2008. Dima Bilan won the contest in Belgrade, Serbia with the song “Believe” taking the contest to Moscow the following year. In the 2015 and 2016, Russia finished in 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the final.
