The lead singer of ONUKA, Nata Zhyzhchenko has been announced as the Ukrainian spokesperson for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
Ukraine has revealed their spokesperson for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Having performed as one of the interval acts during the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Kyiv, Ukraine. She performed alongside the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Ukraine on stage.
ONUKA is a joint project of the famous Ukrainian sound producer and musician Eugene Filatov (The Maneken) and Nata Zhyzhchenko (former vocalist of Tomato Jaws and Kooqla). The first single of ONUKA was released in 2013. In the autumn of 2014 Nata and Eugene presented the debut album ‘ONUKA’. It includes the hits-songs ‘Look’, ‘When I Met You’, ‘Time’ and ‘Misto’. In the winter of 2016 ONUKA announced the launch of their own label Vidlik. The first release of the label became same-name titled 5-track EP.
MÉLOVIN will be representing Ukraine at this years contest. He is no stranger to Eurovision selection shows, as he participated in Vidbir 2017 with his song “Wonder”. He ended up placing third in the Final, receiving the highest amount of televote points but placing second-to-last with the jury. A year later he participated once again, this time placing first. This time around he received the highest amount of televote points and second-highest amount of jury points.
Ukraine first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003, when Oleksandr Ponomariov performed “Hasta la vista”. The following year Ruslana brought the country their first win with the song “Wild Dances”. It was a feat that would be replicated in 2016 by Jamala with her song “1944”; her emotionally charged song scored a record 534 points to take victory in Stockholm. Last year O.Torvald represented the country on home soil with the song “Time”. The group finished in 24th place, Ukraine’s worst result at the contest to date.
