United States: Michelle Visage Will Not Commentate in Lisbon

Michelle Visage has announced that she will not be a commentator for Logo TV in Lisbon, for Eurovision 2018 due to prior commitments.

Michelle Visage has announced on social media today that she will not be returning to the commentary booth for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal. The RuPaul’s Drag Race star announced that she is unable to attend the event due to the contest clashing with RuPaul’s Drag Con in Los Angeles.

Logo TV has yet to announce their commentary line up for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. In 2017, Michelle and Ross Matthews took over the role from Carson Kressley and Michelle Collins who commentated on the contest in 2016, when Logo TV secured the US rights to the contest for the first time. This didn’t come without some issues, though, as Justin Timberlake’s interval act couldn’t be aired on the channel because of licensing reasons.

In 2017, a total of 64,000 viewers watched the final of the contest live on Logo TV in the United States. The show however failed to reach into the top.150 shows broadcast on Cable on May 13th, reaching just 0.02% of 18-49 year old’s across the country. The previous year saw a total of 52,000 viewers from Logo TV. The Drag Race duo Michelle and Ross were generally praised last year by social media users for their commentary style, after the previous duo Carson Kressley and Michelle Collins were criticised for ridiculing the event.

The European Broadcasting Union’s deal with Logo TV was put under severe criticism from fans due to the geo-blocking of content on the contest official YouTube page. Viewers have been left with 1 minute 30 clips of the performances on Logo TV. While viewers in the rest of the America’s have complained that they have been blanket blocked from watching the official streams for the contest and have resorted to watching secondary streams.
