The Romanian national broadcaster has started its international promotional campaign through three broadcasts of ‘Drumul spre Lisabona’.
TVR is looking to build up support around The Humans across the Romanian diaspora as it broadcasts ‘Drumul spre Lisabona’. ‘Drumul spre Lisabona’ (The Road to Lisbon), will be broadcast on April 14, 21 and 28 on TVR International and TVR Moldova. The program will reach the Romanian diaspora in Moldova, Europe and Australia as it informs viewers about The Humans, their Eurovision entry and preparations.
The first episode which was broadcast last night saw The Humans perform three covers of well known Eurovision entries;
Romania has a diaspora numbering over 3.1 million across the other 42 countries competing in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Of which over 2.3 million will be able to vote for Romania during the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
Romania has never failed to qualify for the final of a Eurovision Song Contest since the introduction of the semi-finals. In the past three contests that Romania has participated in, they have finished 3rd, 5th and 2nd with the televote in their semi-finals.
Founded in 2017, The Humans is a Romanian band from Bucharest. The group consists of Cristina Caramarcu (vocalist), Alexandru Cismaru (guitarist), Alexandru Matei (keyboardist), and Adi Tetrade (drummer). Although they are a new band, they rose to fame after winning this year’s Selectia Nationala, the Romanian Eurovision selection show. Their song “Goodbye” was written by Cristina herself and was composed and produced by band members Alexandru Matei and Alin Neagoe.
Romania first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, the country had tried to participate in 1993 but failed to get through the pre-qualifying round. At the 1994 contest Dan Bittman finished 21st in the final scoring 14 points, Romania didn’t make it through to another final until 1998. Romania’s best results in the contest are two third place finishes. In 2005 Luminita Anghel & Sistem finished 3rd scoring 158 points, while Paula Seling & Ovi finished 3rd in Oslo with the song “Playing with Fire”. Romania missed the 2016 contest due to TVR being removed from the EBU.
