Alexander Rybak, who will represent Norway at Eurovision 2018 will perform this evening in Virtuos, the Norwegian selection process for Eurovision Young Musicians.
Eurovision winner and 2018 participant, Alexander Rybak will take to the stage this evening as Norway selects their participant for Eurovision Young Musicians 2018. Alexander Rybak will perform as one of the guests in the final of Virtuos 2018, the show will be broadcast live on NRK 1 from 19:55 CET.
The final of Virtuos 2018 will be presented by Ingerid Stenvold and Hans Olav Brenner. The finalists are:
- Nikita Khnykin – piano
- Birgitta Oftestad – cello
- August Schieldrop – tuba
- Oda Holt Günther – violin
The winner of Virtuos will represent Norway at Eurovision Young Musicians 2018. The winner will be decided a jury of classical music experts.
NRK has used Virtuos to select the Norwegian participant in Eurovision Young Musicians since 2006, the format has seen Norway take victory at the 2012 contest in Vienna, Austria. In 2016 Norway was represented by 17-year-old Ludvig Gudim who performed Carmen Fantasie by Franz Waxman, he did not place within the top three.
Alexander Rybak won MGP 2018 in March with his entry “That´s How You Write a Song”, and will represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 for the second time after he won the contest in 2009 with the song “Fairytale”.

Norway debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960, and have won the contest three times – in 1985, 1995 and 2009. The country has the dubious record of finishing last the most times, eleven in total, and have received nul points four times. Norway last won the contest in 2009 when Alexander Rybak broke all records with his song “Fairytale”. He scored 387 points in the final, receiving 16 sets of 12 points and scoring points from every country.
