This Sunday NRK will become the latest broadcaster to air the first edition of Eurovision Choir of the Year.
The final of Eurovision Choir of the Year 2017 is set to be broadcast on NRK 2 on April 1 from 19:45 CET. Commentary will be provided by Arild Erikstad, the Norwegian Head of Delegation at Eurovision Young Dancers and Eurovision Young Musicians.
Norway had turned down participating in last years contest due to their current participation in Let The Peoples Sing. Let the Peoples Sing is a biannual competition organised by the EBU’s radio department for amateur choirs. The broadcaster however said that there was the possibility of participating in Choir of the Year in its second edition.
Alongside Norway the contest has also been broadcast in the non-participating countries of:
- Australia – SBS
- Albania – RTSH 1
- France – ARTE Concert
- Serbia – RTS 2
- Ukraine – Radio Ukraine
Eurovision Choir of the Year 2017 was won by Carmen Manet from Slovenia. The choir performed two pieces during their six minutes on stage and beat off competition from eight other choirs from across Europe. Wales finished second in the final, while the host nation of Latvia finished third. The contest was broadcast live in ten countries across Europe and across the world online.
