The next artist featured in our “Who Is” series for the 2018 season is Benjamin Ingrosso from Sweden.
In March, it was decided that Benjamin Ingrosso would represent Sweden at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest after he won the final of Melodifestivalen. Let’s get to know a bit more about him.
Benjamin Ingrosso was born on 14th September 1997 in Danderyd, Sweden. He was born into a musical family, as his mother is famous singer Pernilla Wahlgren, and his father Emilio Ingrosso is a former dancer. At just 8 years old, Benjamin won the children’s competition show Lilla Melodifestivalen with the song “Hej Sofia”. He then went on to represent Sweden at MGP Nordic 2006, where he finished fourth. Throughout his childhood, he acted in several musicals, and later went on to release award-winning singles.
In 2007, he participated in Allsång på Skansen alongside his mother, and seven years later he won Let’s Dance 2014. Benjamin is no stranger to Eurovision selection shows, as he took part in Melodifestivalen a year prior to his win. In 2017, he placed fifth in the final with his song “Good Lovin'”.
Benjamin Ingrosso will represent Sweden at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with his song “Dance You Off”.
Sweden debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958 and has gone on to be one of the contest’s most successful countries. The country has won the contest six times, the most recent being in 2015. Sweden’s first victory came in 1974 when ABBA won the contest in Brighton with “Waterloo”. Since missing out on the final in 2010, Sweden has gone on to finish 3rd twice and has won the contest twice, only in 2013 did the country place outside of the top 10 in the final.
