The next artists featured in our “Who Is” series for the Eurovision 2018 season are Gromee and Lukas Meijer.
At the beginning of March, it was decided that Gromee and Lukas Meijer would represent Poland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest after they won Krajowe Eliminacje. Let’s get to know a bit more about them.
Andzej Gromala (Gromee) was born on 14th December 1978 in Kraków, Poland. Known for his “house” genre, Gromee is a DJ, record producer, remixer, and songwriter. He currently owns Kingztown Music and has been signed to Sony Music since 2016. Last year, he received an award for Best DJ/Producer at the Eska Music Awards. Since 2011, he has released many singles featuring various different artists including Lukas Meijer. Lukas is a rock musician, singer, guitarist and songwriter from Ulricehamn, Sweden. He is also in a band called No Sleep For Lucy, where he is a vocalist.
The pair participated in Poland’s Eurovision selection show, Krajowe Eliminacje, with their song “Light Me Up”. They won the competition and will represent Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest in May.
Poland debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 alongside a number of other Eastern European countries. Their debut year saw their best result to date, as Edyta Gorniak finished in 2nd place with her song “To nie ja!”. Following this, Poland failed to repeat this initial success, managing a top 10 placing on only one other occasion during their initial 1994-2011 run in the contest. In 2012, following a string of non-qualifications, Poland withdrew from the contest due to financial difficulties. Since their return in 2014, they have been considerably more successful in the contest, having qualified for the final for every year since there return. At Kyiv 2017, Kasia Mos finished 22nd in the final with her song “Flashlight”.
