The next artist to be featured in our “Who Is” series for the Eurovision 2018 season is Sevak Khanagyan from Armenia.
In February, it was decided that Sevak Khanagyan would represent Armenia at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest after he won Depi Evratesil. Let’s get to know a bit more about him.
Sevak Khanagyan was born on 28th July 1987 in Metsavan, Armenia. When he was young, his family moved to Russia, and from there Sevak graduated from a school in Moscow with a music degree. The singer first came onto the music scene when he took part in Glavnaya Stsena, the Russian version of The X Factor, in 2015. He was eliminated in the quarterfinals. He then went on to compete in The Voice of Russia but was again eliminated. He had more success a year later, however, as he won the seventh season of The X Factor Ukraine. He later returned to his home country to become a coach on The Voice of Armenia.
Sevak Khanagyan will represent Armenia at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal in May. He was chosen after he won Depi Evratesil 2018, the Armenian selection show, with his song “Qami”.
Armenia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 and has participated every year since, excluding 2012. Armenia’s best results came in 2008 and 2014 when they finished 4th in the final. They have only once failed to qualify for the final, in 2011, when Emmy finished in 12th with “Boom Boom”. She was 1 point away from qualifying for the final. At the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Armenia was represented by Artsvik and the song “Fly with Me”, which finished in 18th place in the final with 79 points.
