The organisers of 1 in 360, the Sanmarinese selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, have stated that they intend to return for a second edition next year.
In a statement released on Facebook, the organisers stated:
“We wanted to say a big thank you to all the fans who followed the 1 in 360 episodes and gave their comments and feedback. We tried to listen to you and promise to take the lessons learned on board for next year. Not everything was perfect, but overall we believe we managed to put together three great shows with a number of amazing artists. We’re incredibly honored to have worked with such talented musicians from all over the world, and would like to thank each of them personally. Both individually and collectively, our candidates proved to be of such a high quality that it became an incredibly difficult task to pick a winner. Different people will have different opinions on the result, but that’s the nature of contests like this. Borrowing a phrase from Eurovision veteran Conchita Wurst, we have no doubt that some of the candidates who didn’t make it this year will rise like a Phoenix in the future, and for some of them, new doors have already opened. To all the Eurovision media and all the fans who have followed 1 in 360: You haven’t seen the last of us yet. We’ll continue to surprise you all the way to Lisbon in May 2018 and hope to take you with us on our journey. And we have every intention to come back next year with a bigger and better selection that we’ll tailor based on the experience and feedback we’ve received this year.”
This year was the first time, since their debut in 2008, that San Marino chose to hold a national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. Singers from all across the world were able to upload a video of themselves singing a cover song, and of all the applicants, the 11 artists for the shows were chosen.
1in360 consisted of three shows. The first two episodes were pre-recorded and were broadcast on the 9th and 16th of February 2018. All 11 contestants were present in both episodes, performing a potential entry in each show. These performances were done in acoustic form. At the end of the second episode, it was down to the judges to decide which of every artists’ 2 songs were the best and would progress to the final, where the finished, fully produced versions of the songs were performed. Jessika feat. Jenifer Brening were selected to represent San Marino with “Who We Are”.
At the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, San Marino will perform in the first half of the second semi-final.
