AISEL, Azerbaijan’s chosen singer for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will reveal her song on March 4.
Last week, it was reported that AISEL’s Eurovision entry is being produced by the “Dream Team”, composed of Philip Kirkorov, pop singer and the 1995 Eurovision contestant from Russia, as well as choreographer Ilias Kokotos, and composer Dimitris Kontopoulos.
Meanwhile, AISEL also filmed the introduction video for the Eurovision shows. In her video postcard, shot in the town of Reguengos de Monsaraz, she takes an adventure in hot air balloon, taking in the view of the natural landscapes of the Portuguese region of Alentejo.
“I have to admit that before the flight I was a little afraid,” she said in an interview with RTP. “However, when we started to float in the air, the fear disappeared and I loved this wonderful trip.”
AISEL, who hails from Baku, attended the Bulbul School of Music from 1995 to 2006, and the Azerbaijan National Conservatory, a higher music school, until 2010. She is a jazz and soul singer, and an accomplished vocalist, pianist and composer. She has performed at festivals such as the Caspian Jazz & Blues Festival (2002), the Baku International Jazz festival (2005 & 2006), the MuzEnergo Festival of Music Improvisation (2007), Montreux Jazz Festival (2009), and the Caucasus Jazz Festival (2012), and is also a member of the Baku Jazz Centre.
AISEL will perform in the first half of the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon.
The 28 year-old jazz musician and songwriter, chosen via internal selection, will be the 11th act to represent Azerbaijan in Eurovision history.
Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest
Azerbaijan debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008, they were represented by Elnur & Samir with the song “Day After Day”, they finished 8th in the final. In 2011 Azerbaijan won the Eurovision Song Contest represented by Ell & Nikki and their song “Running Scared”. The song scored a total of 221 points, receiving only three sets of 12 points from Malta, Russia and Turkey. In the past three years Azerbaijan has failed to reach the top.10 in the final a position that Azerbaijan never placed lower than between 2008 and 2013.
