The next artist featured in our “Who Is” series for the Eurovision 2018 season is Gianna Terzi from Greece.
In February, it was announced that Gianna Terzi would represent Greece at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. Let’s get to know a bit more about her.
Gianna (Yianna) Terzi was born on 7th May 1980 in Thessaloniki, Greece. Gianna began her music career at age 20 when she moved to Athens and released her first album Gyrna to kleidi. Two years later she released another album, Asa me na taxidepso, and later moved to the United States. Her father is famous Greek singer Paschalis Terzis.
Gianna entered into the Greek national final for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest and was one of the twenty shortlisted artists. The twenty then got whittled down to just five. These five would go on to participate in a televised national final, but two acts got disqualified, and a further two belonged to record labels who reportedly didn’t want to pay a large fee to the broadcaster, leaving Gianna as the only artist left in the competition.
Gianna Terzi will represent Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal, this May. Greek broadcaster ERT revealed that she would represent the country this year with the song “Oniro mou”.
Greece debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, when they were represented by Marinella and the song “Krasi, thalassa kai t’agori mou” which finished in 11th place with 7 points. Three years later Greece earned their first top 5 finish with Paschalis, Marianna, Robert and Bessy who finished in 5th place with “Mathima solfege”. In 2001 Greece achieved their first top 3 result with Antique and the song “I Would Die For You”. The song became a European hit, and charted across the continent. In 2005 Helena Paparizou returned to the Eurovision stage as a solo artist and brought Greece their first, and to date only, victory. Her song “My Number One” won with 230 points, beating runners-up Malta by 38 points.
